My Lord,

I have the honour to inform Your

Lordship that, unless I hear from you to the contrary by

telegram, I propose to make no provision in next year's

Estimates for the payment of fees to the Consulting

Engineer in connection with the construction of the

British Section of the Kowloon-Canton Railway, as I do not

anticipate that their services will be required after the

end of this year.

I shall be glad if Your Lordship

will be good enough to cause the Consulting Engineers to

be informed accordingly.
